The Star Trek slot from IGT looks pretty special at first glance. The graphics are decent (although IGT graphics are a little behind the newer Playtech slots IMO) but it's the soundtrack and gameplay that make the Star Trek slot stand out. The game has no less than four seperate bonus features each triggered by getting the Bonus symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4. It's the Bonus symbol on reel 4 that decide which of the 4 features you get. The video above shows the Spock Bonus with extra wild symbols. The others feature extra scatters, stacked symbols, up to 10x multipliers -in fact I won't spoil the surprise! And each one can retrigger up to 250 spins too!

The best known of the IGT slots are obviously games like Cleopatra and Pharaohs Fortune but they represent the older style of game. I think it's fair to say that the Star Trek slot ushers in a much more advanced looking slot machine into IGT's armoury although ultimately it will be the gameplay that decides which ones work and which fall off the radar. I'd hazard a guess that the Star Trek slot machine (the land-based version was released in 2011 too) will be one that sticks.

A lot of the video slots here have great graphics and sounds (definitely check out the awesome Gladiator slot as an example) so it's no surprise that IGT are pushing their own boundaries - I feel they need to to keep up with the online market.

One other point of note. There are actually two Star Trek slots available to play online and in land-based now - this IGT game and also the WMS Star Trek slot. To explain, WMS have the licence for the TV series of Star Trek while IGT have secured the licence for the motion pictures so, although there are obvious similarities, you will see the differences in imagery most notably. How do they compare? Personally I think I prefer the IGT version above but that said, the WMS version is also very playable... especially the land-based version with it's vibrating seat and stereo headrests! Awesome.
