I was a bit sceptical when I heard that playtech were updating Desert Treasure because it's a low variance game with a good "grind" value but not a slot I thought would stand up to a revamp. But to be fair, Playtech proved themselves on sequels when they took the fun-but-average Iron Man slot and produced the briliant Iron Man 2 and they've done a pretty good job with Desert Treasure too in my opinion. have done a decent job on the Desert Treasure II slot.

Aside from the updated graphics and sounds which are actually really nicely designed to tie in with the original game, the primary difference with Desert Treasure II is the addition of expanding wild symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 and a change to the bonus features. The variance of the game I'd say is marginally higher than the original but still sits between low and medium, while the top-pay symbols have switched from the "Oasis" symbol on the original to the "Bedouin" chappie on the sequel.

Because you can't get 5 wilds anymore, the payout for 5 Bedouin guys is a massive 10,000 coins. When you consider that you can get full reels of wilds on 3, 4 and 5, then the potential for the "big win" is most definitely there. But getting the wilds ain't easy - in fact in the 1,000 or so spins it took me to make the video above, I didn't once get all 3 wilds in view at the same time. Clearly though this is going to be the "Holy Grail" hit on Desert Treasure II - especially if it comes in the free spin feature.

Talking of features, the "Oasis" bonus game is still there but revamped into a two-level "pick 'em" style game. You are still lucky if you come away with anything more than 5-10x your bet though - you need 4 or 5 triggering symbols to make this one pay anything half decent but that's true to the original game too to be fair. The free spin bonus in the Desert Treasure II slot has changed in that you now get 15 free spins at 2x rather than the 10 free spins at 3x of the original and this is undoubtedly because of the presence of expanding wild symbols.

Low variance means you get plenty of entertainment value from a slot game but hitting a big win is that much harder. The key to Desert Treasure II, like it's predecessor, is walking away with a modest profit. Every blue moon you might get the Bedouin hit or the 3 expanding wilds lined up but without that happening then just look for a small profit or enjoy the game for it's entertainment value.
