Ever since Playtech released their amazing Gladiator slot based on the movie, the bar was raised for slot game development. Soon after, they released the entertaining Kong and the IMO disappointing Rocky slot and next up was The Mummy which, actually, is quite something!

The first thing that jumps out at you is that The Mummy looks boody confusing! Actually it's not once you start playing but there is a lot going on, with no less than 8 "winnable features". You need to collect features as you progress and these include expanding wilds, respins, extra wilds and more. Each of the features is unlocked randomly as you go through the game.

In reality, it took me less than 2 hours of solid play or so to unlock all 8 features. Six of these features are designed to improve the gameplay and can only be played one at a time, so you have to pick whether you want expanding wilds, extra multipliers etc. Two of the features - Mummy Hunt and the Free Spins - are continually active and are won by getting the symbols required (check out the video).

I am seriously am not going to be able to fully explain The Mummy slot fully and simply in words so I would really recommend you watch the video to appreciate it. It's long - but then every single feature is in there so it's worth it!

What I will add a word on however is the "balance" of the game. Some players like entertainment first while others, like me, prefer volatile games where you might go a long time with nothing but then get a monster. Games like Playtech's awesome Great Blue spring to mind. When you see a slot game like The Mummy come along with so much going on then you have to realise that the trade-off is monster wins. That's not say you can't get a Big Win but it will be rare - you play The Mummy and games like it for the experience first and foremost so if making a profit is your aim, then set your sights at a modest one.

By way of an example, while I was making The Mummy video above, I played the game for around 2 hours all-told at £2.50 a spin, started with a balance of £250, topped it up with another £250 but ended up with just over £526 by the time the entire video was made. My biggest hit in that time was 85x in the free spin bonus and including that one, I had two "big wins" (over 30x) during that time.

The Mummy is a beautiful piece of eye-candy and certainly gets you involved. Whether it hits the right balance between entertainment and fun remains to be seen and I expect every player will have their opinion on that over time. But for now, you have to check it out. It's another in a great line of Playtech slots which I'd suggest are making the developers of the other video slots featured at Slotjunkies start to look over their shoulders more and more.
